I have a 1988 SOUTHWIND CLASS A Motor Home for sale.

It is a 22 footer and it is very sturdy. It drives not much differently than a large SUV. For the past 4 years I have driven it only from the Eau Claire area to Washburn, in Bayfield County, where I use it as a summer cottage. In the Fall I drive it back, and it is winterized and stored for the season in Fall Creek.
It has all the usual campground hookups for external water electricity and sewer and also has a built in electrical system with a 5KW generator, fresh water storage tank, black and gray water holding tanks, and pressure pump. It has a complete 12V/120V lighting system and an engine driven air conditioner for on the road.
The bathroom includes a very nice one piece tub/shower combo, pressure flush toilet, lavatory with sink, medicine cabinet, privacy curtain, towel bars, under sink cabinet for storage, and ground protected outlets for shavers, blow dryers, and other accessories.
There is comfortable sleeping for 2 Adults and several children.
Comfort and convenience accessories include:
1. A refrigerator/freezer that operates on the road from LP gas and when parked from either 120 volts, or the generator.
2. A roof air conditioner that operates on the road using the generator or when parked from either the generator or a 120V hookup. It cools the interior off very quickly even on the hottest days.
3. Gas stove with oven and Gas furnace with wall thermo.
4. Color TV with external antenna and signal amplifier.
5. Self contained pressure water system including a gas water heater.
6. Microwave oven.
7. 40 Channel CB Radio and outside antenna.
8. A dining table that can be quickly converted to a bed.
9. Swivel passenger arm chair to face inward.
10. Stereo AM/FM Cassette audio system with speakers in front and rear.
11. Smoke alarm and Carbon Monoxide alarm.
12. "Atomic" self setting digital clock with large display.
13. Cooling fans for passenger and driver.
14. Sliding windows with built in screens.
15. More storage space than you can fill up, including large closet, Oak overhead and lower cabinets, and many drawers, and under seat bins. Outside there are several large bins for the spare tire, lawn chairs, sports equipment, hoses, extension cords, etc.
16. The passenger side has a 3/4 length all weather awning that is very easy to lower and raise. It protects the motor home from the sun and keeps the inside much cooler in hot weather. It cost a bundle to put it on but it was worth it.
17. The roof is one-piece rubber and the body is plywood overlaid with a seamless acrylic sheeting. The roof has never leaked.
18. The tires are in good condition and I cover them whenever the motor home is parked. The covers are commercial quality and go along with the vehicle.
19. There are both interior and exterior bubble levels for easy parking.
20. The bedroom has an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer.
21. There are indicator lights on an indoor panel to check the levels in all the holding tanks, the batteries, and the LP gas.
Here is a photo of the motor home parked in Washburn.
Here is a photo if it parked in KC on a visit to a friend's park.
The motor home is built on a heavy Chevrolet truck frame with a 454 V8 engine and automatic transmission. It can travel 65 mph down the highway and still has plenty of power for passing anything in sight. There is even a tachometer to monitor engine performance. It was a one-owner trade-in on a new motor home when I bought it and it has approximately 86,000 miles on it. I'm sure I have not covered all of the motor home's features but you can get a pretty good idea from this.
I have a little under $16,000 invested in the Southwind. It is in good mechanical and physical shape although a thorough cleaning and polishing wouldn't hurt. There are a couple of things that should be attended to. The LP gas tank is not up to current specs and needs to be replaced. About once in 100 road miles the automatic transmission shifts to neutral. Moving the lever to neutral and back to drive solves the problem. I am told by the people at the Transmission Company on Mall drive (who have given it a clean bill of health and a complete servicing) that it is a minor linkage adjustment. Several of the bulbs in the running lights are burned out and need replacing. The hood latch pull in the cab has come away from its bracket and needs refastening. The seat cushions in the dining area are beginning to show some wear and re-covering them would make the interior look even nicer than it is and the full sized mattress in the bedroom area should be replaced. I have taken all these things into consideration and have lowered my expectations by $1000 to cover these and any other minor repairs or improvements that may be necessary.
I decided $6900 (less than half of what I have in it) was a reasonable and fair asking price for the motor home but I have lowered it to $5900 to cover the items above. You can hardly buy a decent used SUV or car for that price. It is difficult to find a Class A motor home in this size and if it weren't for the fact that I have purchased a cabin in Bayfield County I would not think of selling it. I am not a dealer or anything of the sort and this is a private sale. The motor home has a clear title and is insured and licensed in Wisconsin through July.
If you wish to see the motor home and/or make a reasonable offer you may e-mail me. I will answer all the e-mails and invite you out in the order the mail was received. If however you are willing to make a firm non-negotiable offer of $5900 I will contact you by phone and make arrangements for you to inspect and drive the motor home as soon as possible. At the $5900 price I will include a brand new tow bar and lighting package so you may take your car with you. The motor home has both front and back ball hitches so that you may pull a boat out of the water without ever getting the motor home into the water.
The motor home should be out of storage, serviced, and ready to go by June 1st. I have honestly described its high points and known faults and will go one step further to assure you of a quality buy. I will escrow $400 for one month to cover anything that you find that needs attention. All I will need is an explanation and a bill of sale from a dealer or reputable service shop and I will write a check up to $400 to cover it.
I will expect you to be as honest as I am.
If you can find a better buy you should take it.
